Kåre lives in Trondheim with his wife Marianne and two daughters, Elin and Ingvild. He finished his Ph.D. at the Norwegian University of Technology in 1992 and received his first dry suit as a graduation present. In 2000 he purchased an underwater housing for his digital camera and it has been standard equipment on every dive since. Many co-members of the dive club Draugen have waited patiently while he takes his pictures.

Kåre is currently employed at a Norwegian oil company, Statoil, at the Kristin oil platform, 180 km off the Norwegian shore. With four weeks off between each two-week shift, he has got plenty opportunities for frequent diving.

Since 2002 Kåre has developed his web-site www.seawater.no. Here he uses his pictures to present the Norwegian marine fauna, together with a brief description of each species.
