Florian Graner is a marine biologist and free lance photographer. He
specialises in underwater cinematography and photography. He has worked as a
cameraman in projects for the BBC such as “The Blue Planet”, “Extreme Animals”
and “Wildlife on One”. He has also worked as both producer and cameraman for
co-productions between international partners such as NDR and National
Geographic. The most recent example is a film on the wildlife of the Norwegian
fjords (“Norway’s Hidden Secrets”) including marine mammals, deep water sharks
and cold water coral reefs. His next project is a film on harbour porpoises.
Florian also participates in photo-projects and has contributed to various field
guides and exhibitions. In over 16 years and well over 1800 dives, Florian has built up extensive video
and photo libraries. He has gathered images from Malpelo and Cocos, Hawaii and
the Caribbean Sea, the Sea of Cortez and California, the Red Sea, the
Mediterranean Sea, the Azores and Iceland, Germany, Great Britain and Denmark,
the Irish Sea to the Baltic Sea, and Norway including major fjords and
Spitzbergen.
Florian has a Ph. D. in marine biology. Most of his scientific work focuses on
marine mammals and his Ph. D. work was done on harbour porpoises in Norway.
Florian is a re-breather specialist and operates three sets of equipment and his
own boats from his bases in California, Norway and Germany. His video equipment
includes DVC-PRO 50 and DVCAM Systems. Underwater stills are taken with NIKON
cameras.
