Erling lives with his family on the island Egeroya on the
Southwest-coast of Norway. He has a wife and three children and
works as a technical manager in the local newspaper Dalane
Tidende.
He became a certified diver in 1976 and has done about 3000 dives since then.
Erling started to take pictures while diving the same year, using a Nikonos-3
camera and a strobe with disposable bulbs. Today Erling has captured more than a
100 000 underwater images and he has about 35 000 high quality photos in his
archive. Many has been printed in books and magazines all over the world.
Erling has won the national championship for underwater photographers 4 times
and he has also participated in the CMAS World championship two times.
Even though Norway is Erlings favourite diving spot, he has travelled all over
the globe bringing home images from Spitsbergen in north to the South Pacific
and South-Africa in the south.
It is Erlings passion to document marine life. His hunt for new and rare species
has brought him to diving spots where no one else would even dream of entering
the water. The ability to enjoy the small and bashful creatures and the desire
to document this, is the motive power in most of Erlings diving actions.
